The short answer

1. Lighting: a neon LED strip
Lighting is the cheapest way to change how a room feels. The RGB Neon LED Strip is 5 metres long, bends into curves, and runs from any USB port, including a spare one on your PC. You control it three ways: the button on the strip, an infrared remote, or the Bluetooth app, which adds dozens of modes and a microphone mode that follows the sound in the room.
- Choose the RGB Neon LED Strip if you want to change colours, run dynamic modes or sync to music.
- Choose the Single Colour Neon LED Strip (red, green, blue, pink, purple, daylight or warm white) if you want one clean colour. It is plug-in, IP67 waterproof and can be cut every 2.5 cm to fit.
- Plug a strip in and test it before you stick anything down. It starts in a 7-colour cycle as soon as it is powered.
2. Walls: black 3D wall panels
The wall behind your desk or monitor is what shows on camera and what you look at all day. Black 3D PVC wall panels, 1 × 1 ft each, dampen noise, are easy to install and give the room a bold gamer look. A black textured wall also makes neon colours stand out.

The Colorful Egg Humidifier is a compact USB-powered unit with a 220 ml tank, about 3.5 hours of spray time and a soft ring of light that stays on while it is powered. It measures 80 × 80 × 103 mm and weighs 65 g, so it fits beside a keyboard or on a bedside table. It is made for a small space close to you, not for a whole room.
4. Floor: a compact robot vacuum
Dust and crumbs collect under a desk and chair first. The Smart Mini Robot Vacuum sweeps and mops hard floors such as wood, tiles and marble. It is only 160 × 160 × 60 mm, runs at about 45 dB, and cleans for 30 minutes per charge.

Powering it all
